A passion for pottery and creativity.

Studio P is a community pottery studio offering classes, workshops and open studio access for those looking to learn, create and connect.

Vaughan and Katie launched Studio P in their ‘homie’ backyard studio. However, the space was quickly outgrown with growing interest in their classes…

In late 2020, Studio P opened its doors in the heart of Leederville offering a laidback space for the community to get creative with clay.

The studio hosts a range of hand building and wheel throwing classes; for the absolute beginner through to experienced potter. In addition, regular creative workshops are offered including glazing sessions, ‘pet-nat & pottery’ and ‘harmony hand building’ to name a few!

All courses and workshops are a hands-on experience, with the studio teachers ensuring individual attention is given to every student.

We can’t wait to have you join us in the studio.

Meet the Team

  • Vaughan

Vaughan started his pottery journey in 2015 and has since participated in advanced pottery classes to develop his extensive wheel throwing skills. He has been a pottery studio committee member and kiln supervisor for years and has taken part in studio exhibitions with his ceramic creations. Since the beginning of 2019 he has been teaching pottery weekly at Studio P to share his passion and knowledge.

  • Katie

Katie is a qualified secondary school teacher and has started teaching wheel-throwing classes in 2020. She has been learning from Vaughan for the past two years and developed not only advanced wheel throwing skills but also a passion for pottery. Since she was young, Katie has been passionate about expressing herself creatively through painting, print-making, pottery and loves sharing her experience with others!

  • Robbie

Robbie grew up in a family of artists and has always had a keen interest in the arts. He has studied architecture and has worked for the past five years as a project manager on major infrastructure projects such as the Perth Children’s Hospital. After dabbling in ceramics sculpture at school, Robbie did not begin his journey with wheel work until 2018 and was seriously bitten by the ceramic bug as soon as his hands touched the clay. Since then he has been more or less obsessed with the craft, working hard to develop his skills and experiment with various techniques, clays, glazes and firing methods. He has been attending short courses at TAFE for the past three years and has been teaching beginners wheel work since early 2021.

  • Ally

Ally is a sound healer, videography assistant and potter, whose work often combines wheel thrown vessels, decorated with realistic sculptural details to bring life to her pieces. Ally studied acting and presenting in Sydney, and currently also works for a video production company in Perth. Her background in film contributes to her love of storytelling, and her enthusiasm for the arts, which she brings to her wheel throwing and hand building classes.

Ally puts her heart into her courses and loves seeing the joy from her students as they realise their potential. You can find Ally teaching Wheel Throwing, Pet Nat and Pottery, as well as her Forms and Figures workshops.

  • Alex

Alex has a degree in secondary education in Visual Arts and Science. He began his pottery career at university and has since been an avid ceramicist. Although he teaches hand-building, Alex combines both hand and wheel work in his own practice. Alex enjoys creating ‘ugly vases and mugs’ as he describes it, using form and colour to create weird and wonderful artwork.

  • Nanwen

Nanwen is a qualified engineer and has been a Studio P member since 2021. She has a passion for helping others with pottery and loves to teach our wheel throwing classes. For Nanwen, pottery is all about learning and not perfection. For her own pottery, Nanwen loves playing with colourful glaze combinations, trying new pottery techniques and testing her ability to throw big pots. Her pots are mostly organic, functional pieces.

  • Tahnee

Tahnee has always loved to create. Her interest in creating led to a degree in Interior and Spatial Design and working for over a decade in the industry designing commercial and retail spaces. Tahnee began taking courses with ceramicist, Warrick Palmateer, who continues to be a mentor to this day. She has also been fortunate to attend workshops by several creatives including Fergus Stewart and Eric Landon (Tortus) – all of which led her to important pivot points in her development. She has also been part of several local exhibitions and events.

Tahnee’s style is heavily influenced by her love of organic forms, nature and also obsesses over clean lines. She is passionate about clay and loves sharing this with people.
